On every tonne of waste dumped on a landfill site in Britain, the government collects a levy called the Landfill Tax.
The Landfill Tax Credit Scheme allows landfill operators to use 20% of the tax collected to promote more environmentally sustainable methods of waste management and environmental improvements.
In any given project, 90% of the funding can come from the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme BUT the last 10% must come from another source. In the case of projects supported by Patersons, this extra 10% usually comes from the company coffers. The types of projects supported are wide ranging and cover sports facilities, building restoration, recycling and many more.
